19-year-old is flashed at by bogus taxi driver
POLICE today launched an appeal after
a teenager was flashed at by a man as he drove her home after pretending to be
a taxi driver.
The 19-year-old had been separated from her friends after leaving a concert at
the Corn Exchange, Chesser Avenue, at about midnight last Thursday when she
was approached by a man claiming to be a private hire car driver.
As he drove her towards the city centre, he spoke to her suggestively and then
flashed at her.
The victim asked to be dropped off several times, but the driver refused to
let her leave the car. She finally managed to get out near the Pleasance.
The man followed her for a short time before driving away and the victim
contacted the police when she got home.
Police said the man had a strong Liverpudlian accent, short grey hair and was
chubby. He was white, in his late 40s to early 50s and about 5ft 5in. He was
wearing blue denim jeans and a dark coloured jumper. He was driving a small
red car, possibly a Peugeot.
A police spokeswoman said: "This incident is obviously of concern and we are
keen to trace the individual involved.
"We would appeal to anyone who has information regarding this incident, or who
knows someone fitting the description of the suspect, to contact the police.
"It is possible that he may have tried to pick up other women earlier in the
night by pretending to be a private hire car driver."
