TAXI ART!
DIGITAL ARTWORKS THAT ARE DIFFERENT EVERY TIME
A unique new interactive technology was launched on
February 13 at the Science Museum and on the Evening Standard's website
www.thisislondon.co.uk By intriguingly combining London's black cabs,
satellite tracking technology and the Internet, TAXI ART allows you to
create on-line digital artworks that are different every time! Each cab in
Radio Taxis' 2900-strong fleet is electronically linked to a
satellite-based dispatch system, which ensures that you are picked up by
the nearest taxi - cutting waiting time, pollution, and keeping London
moving.
In a new development, the satellite data can create
art too. By selecting four individual taxi drivers, assigning a colour and
an artistic style to each, the taxis' journeys combine to create a unique
digital artwork. The concept has been launched to acclaim by the Science
Museum and Radio Taxis' Website, and it is a whole lot of hi-tech fun!
Recently exhibited with great success in the Science Museum's Welcome
Wing, over 100,000 half-term museum-goers are estimated to have acquainted
themselves with the
benefits of satellite tracking and dispatch in this novel way, and at the
same time to have gained deeper understanding of the role played in
London's transport infrastructure by the familiar - but now much more
colourful - black icons. TAXI ART is a project of Radio Taxis, in
conjunction with SAS design, whose eleven years of cutting-edge design
experience has been responsible for many powerful representations of
leading customer brands.
